What the current release includes

Send text messages through your SMS provider, with a consent list and automatic opt-out handling.

  • Choose a provider on the Providers screen, save its credentials, then run Test Connection and Send Test.
  • Add the incoming-message webhook URL, with its key, to your provider so STOP, START and HELP reach the plugin.
  • US business texting needs A2P 10DLC or toll-free registration with your provider; the plugin does not register you.

Why it exists

Texting customers is easy. Texting only the people who agreed is the hard part.

Carriers and regulators expect proof that each person opted in and a reliable way to opt out. Revolutionary SMS gives every plugin on your site one way to send, and checks consent before the message leaves.

Consent you can show

Every opt-in, opt-out and HELP request is kept with its source, IP address, page and the exact wording agreed to, and the whole history exports to CSV.

Opted-out numbers stay out

A number that opted out gets nothing but consent notices. Marketing texts need a recorded opt-in, and a refused send is logged without calling the provider.

Use the provider you have

Switch between providers or add a fallback without changing the code that sends. Secrets are encrypted at rest.

Twilio

SMS and MMS with an Auth Token or API Key, and an optional Messaging Service.

RingCentral

SMS through the JWT flow, with no browser login. Access tokens are cached encrypted and refreshed automatically.

SimpleTexting, EZ Texting and Textellent

Adapters for each service's API, including MMS and Textellent partner accounts.

Klaviyo

Posts an event with your message text so that a Klaviyo Flow's SMS step sends it.

SlickText broadcasts

Sends campaigns to your lists or segments. SlickText's API cannot text a single number, so one-to-one sends through it are refused with a clear message.

Custom HTTP API

Any gateway that sends a text from one HTTP request, with JSON or form templates. Textdrip, Textmunication, TextSpot and UniFi Talk are presets of it.

Consent and opt-outs

Added in 0.2.0, so the opt-out list and its proof live next to the sending.

Consent list

Every number's status plus a history of each opt-in, opt-out and HELP request. Search, filter, add entries by hand with a note on how the person agreed, and export the full history to CSV.

Send rules by purpose

Marketing needs a recorded opt-in. A setting extends that to transactional texts, and staff alerts are never held back. A refused send returns the status blocked.

STOP, START and HELP

An incoming-message webhook acts on the standard stop words. Twilio is read exactly and gets an empty reply; other providers are read from common field names.

Opt-in confirmation

Send new subscribers a confirmation text, and optionally reply to STOP, START and HELP yourself. Twilio answers these on its own, so they are off by default.

Opt-outs survive a reinstall

Uninstalling keeps the consent tables, so your opt-out list is still there if you install again.

Call rev_sms_send(), or do_action( 'rev_sms_send', ... ) from a plugin that should not depend on this one.

Hooks to reroute or block

The rev_sms_pre_send filter, the rev_sms_sent and rev_sms_failed actions, and a filter to register your own adapter.

Message log

Status, provider message ID and error text for each send, with retention pruning and an option not to store message text.

Test Connection and Send Test

Check credentials where the provider has a read-only check, then text your own phone.

Encrypted secrets

Provider secrets are encrypted with AES-256-GCM. Define REV_SMS_ENCRYPTION_KEY in wp-config.php to keep the key out of the database.

Number normalization

Numbers are converted to E.164 with a default country code you set.

No. US carriers require A2P 10DLC brand and campaign registration, or toll-free verification, for business texting. Your provider handles registration. The plugin records consent and handles opt-out keywords.

Not yet. Request shapes are checked against each provider's published reference, and each adapter should get one real Test Connection and Send Test on your account before you rely on it.
